Just finished the first piece in a new portrait project I’m working on - Romeo from Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo + Juliet’! This piece is in line to be the first to be made into some sweet prints which I’ll be selling at print fairs/online soon! I’m already at work at the next piece in the series. It isn’t Juliet, though I’m sure I’ll draw a companion piece to Romeo sometime in the near future.
Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey reciting Romeo & Juliet (Act 3, Scene 5) during an interview
This is a story from long ago, when the great mammoths still roamed our lands. It’s the story of my two brothers and me. When the three of us were young, we were taught that the world is full of magic. The source of this magic is the ever-changing lights that dance across the sky. The shaman woman of our village told us that these lights are the spirits of our ancestors, and that they had the power to make changes in our world. Small things become big. Winter turns to spring. One thing always changes into another.
I have spent my whole life scared – frightened of things that could happen, might happen, might not happen. Fifty years I spent like that. Finding myself awake at three in the morning. But you know what? Ever since my diagnosis, I sleep just fine.. What I came to realize is that fear, that’s the worst of it. That’s the real enemy. So, get up, get out in the real world and you kick that bastard as hard as you can right in the teeth.
